Go blue for 2020. We show you stylish ways to inject the Pantone Color of the Year into your home!

Timeless, reassuring, dependable – these are some adjectives that have been used to describe the Pantone Color Institute’s Color of the Year 2020, Classic Blue. Chosen annually based on extensive research into lifestyle trends in fashion, pop-culture, travel and more, the colour chosen is a zeitgeist of the times. Classic Blue, a deep shade of blue, reflects our desire to be more grounded in 2020, as a stable and reflective counterpoint to the feelings of destabilisation and uncertainty we face in the world today.

So how would you use blue in your home to project calm and confidence? In the world of interiors, this cool hue is breaking new ground, as designers have been embracing it surprisingly in kitchens, using laminates! Delve into a sea of blue with these six inspiring spaces, each featuring one of Lamitak’s intriguing shades of blue.

Design firm Top Interior describes this kitchen as having a ‘classic beach-house vibe’. True enough, the mid-tone blue of the Blueberry, and Picket White laminates conjure an easy breezy air. Brass pull handles provide the perfect highlight for the cabinets which feature trimmings which also give it an elegant New England look.

Projecting a look of pure elegance, the design of this HDB kitchen by Jess Wan Interior plays on the classic nautical contrast of blue and white. The tiled backsplash adds texture to the white surface, while the deep blue-green Espalier laminate is a trendy variation on standard navy.

Blue can be classic, but it can be ultra modern as well, as shown in this home by Indonesian design firm J+A Design. The open-concept design of the kitchen, with its clean minimalist profiles, features a shot of electric indigo blue in the Marina laminate for a look that is smart and stylish.

Simplicity is key in this combination of classic blue and white, using marble with a light vein pattern for the countertop and backsplash, and the Nautical laminate for the cabinets of this condominium kitchen by Voila Interior Design. Simple round brass knobs complete the attractive visual.

The soft grey undertone of the blue-green Brunswick laminate pairs well with the stone-look  Pallido Limestone laminate on the wall to form a soothing palette of colours for this pantry.

In this kitchen designed by Three-D Conceptwerke, the Cadet Blue laminate of the cabinets echoes the hints of blue seen in its tiled decorative backsplash. Similarly, the home’s reddish timber-look flooring and brick wall is also referenced in the tiles, creating visual cohesiveness and a balance of cool and warm hues that pull the whole look together.
